What gets a reply

  • Corrections. A pointer to the statute, agency page, opinion, or record that contradicts something here. These are read first.
  • A statute that changed. State lemon laws are amended regularly and published lists are reissued annually. A note that a number here is now out of date is welcome.
  • A state that has not been covered yet. Requests help set the order in which states get written up.
  • Press and permissions. Articles quote public statutes and agency documents, which are freely quotable; questions about the site's own text can be sent here.

What cannot be answered

Questions about a specific vehicle, a specific repair history, or whether a particular situation qualifies under a state's statute will not be answered. That is applying law to one person's facts, which is what a licensed attorney does and what this site does not do. Messages of that kind will not receive a legal opinion, and sending one creates no attorney-client relationship with anyone.

Readers looking for help with an individual matter can start with their state attorney general's consumer protection office, their state bar's lawyer referral service, or a certified arbitration program if their manufacturer participates in one.

Response time

This is a one-person publication. Corrections are prioritized and usually acted on within a few days. Other messages may take longer, and some will not receive an individual reply.
